Zanzibar is an island situated near the equator and forms part of Tanzania. The country is surrounded by the Indian Ocean. Zanzibar is made up of roughly 1.5 million people, the majority of which are Muslim.

Zanzibar’s currency is the Tanzanian Shilling. 1 Tanzanian Shilling is equivalent to R0.0074. The US Dollar is also commonly accepted.


Swahili is the official language in Zanzibar. English is also widely spoken especially in tourist areas.
