Faerie Glen Nature Reserve
Faerie Glen Nature Reserve is located in Faerie Glen, Pretoria. It is a beautiful nature reserve with a range of wildlife as well as hiking trails and scenic views.
There are game such as impala, red hartebeest, zebra and numerous bird species can be found in the nature reserve. There is also an abundance of bird life and smaller mammal species which can be found at the reserve.
Activities
Some of the activities available at the reserve include:
- Hiking;
- Birdwatching.
Hiking:
There are three hiking trails:
Hadeda (2.3 km) (considered easy);
Acacia (3,2 km) (considered medium);
Kiepersol (4,2 km) (considered hard).
Birdwatching:
There are two wooden lookout points. And there are also informal picnic spots but there are no braai facilities at the reserves. The reserve only allows picnic baskets.
Permits:
Faerie Glen Nature Reserve does allow dogs who are on leashes. However, you will need a valid permit.
You will get a permit for your dog by completing the necessary application form. This form can be obtained from the cashier. The form must be completed and handed in together with an identity photo, a copy of the applicant’s identity document, and receipt of payment. Permits take approximately three days to be issued and can be collected from the cashier.

Entrance Fees:
- Adults – R16
- Pensioners – R6
- Children (7 – 12 years) – R6
- Children (0 – 6 years) – Free
The Reserve sells Season Tickets which allow unlimited visits to the reserve for an entire year. Prices vary depending on the category you fall into.
- Adults – R400.00
- Pensioners – R250.00
- Children (7 – 12 years) – R250.00
- Children (0 – 6 years) – Free
- Dog permits (valid for one year) – per person with a maximum of two dogs – R100.00
Please note that because of the current COVID-19 restrictions, the reserve is only allowing hiking and birdwatching. Therefore, no picnics, guided hikes, group activities, or photoshoots are allowed.
