Mini Town, Durban

Mini Town Durban can be found in the city centre. It has been around for many years, since 1969. You will get a glimpse of South African coastal City and is a fun and different perspective for kids and adults alike. It also includes a few of Durban buildings as well as of other South African cities.

Parking

As Mini Town is located along the Durban beachfront, specifically North Beach, there is ample free parking in front at the entrance. These can get busy and full during the busier seasons, so keep that in mind when you are planning.

Entrance Fees

There are entrance fees for adults and kids between the ages of 2-13 years to visit Mini Town.

Adults – R40.00 per person

Kids (2 – 13 years) – R30.00 per child

They also offer discounted rates for school groups, if the schools want to take the kids for an outing here.

What you will see?

Mini Town, Durban is such a fun and interactive place for the kids. It has a host of different buildings that are built to scale of actual size. Many of these buildings have been sponsored, as Mini Town is a non-profit organization. And when walking around, you will see plaques with the names of the sponsors. The buildings are made of different materials which makes it look as close to the original as possible.

Some of the highlights to look forward to, include the railway system, which has a train moving around the entire area. Its controlled by one of their workers who sits in the control room overlooking the models and you will find the train moving near you. An interactive distribution hub, with moving trucks into and out of warehouses. There is also a harbour with water, and a boat cruising around. An airport area, with an aeroplane moving down the runway. And there is a circus / entertainment model, with moving rides.

The footpath is clearly marked with arrows and visitors are required to stay on the foothpath and refrain from touching the models.

Because of the interactiveness of some of the models, it really keeps the kids entertained and fascinated. We initially did a sweep around the entire area and then back in and started again taking in more detail and identifying the different buildings.

The Venue

Mini Town, Durban also offers Partyland, which is the venue hire for events. This includes use of their venue and additional items as well as a reduced entrance fee for attendees. The party area is a covered area with ample seating and tables.

Should you go?

If you are looking for a fun, reasonably priced place to take your kids to explore, then you should definitely check them out. Its definitely a different and nostalgic experience and something the kids will remember. In addition, you will be support a non-profit organization, so a win-win for everyone. And we certainly plan on going again.
